…Speaking of fun in the sun, I thought this month would be a good time to share a song that I stumbled across that reminded me of the chaos and gossip of family barbecues, children running around, and in general the mayhem that ensues when large families or extended families gather together. Apparently this song - "Reunion" by Bobbie Gentry - recently appeared on Fargo, so that's why it appeared in the digital milieu.

I've been researching the practice of curanderismo for a few years now. My interest in it has existed for the entirety of my life. My grandma and dad both practiced it for small children, but never on a larger scale to my knowledge. Living in the Northwest means there aren't always large populations reinforcing and reinvigorating cultural practices as times change and families grow, so this practice is not really being passed on in my family. I'm happy to hear that it is still alive and well in other parts of the US.

What we need are leaders.
I'm not a scholar of sociology, history, or any discipline that would allow me to speak to this topic with authority, but as a person living in the US negotiating our national and global political climate and trying (or perhaps hoping) to work in small ways to advocate for equity and justice, it feels there is very little movement able to be made these days.
